Showing up in a good way means choosing presence over perfection, compassion over reaction, and peace over performance.

Why Self-Care Matters: Showing Up in a Good Way

As a Queen

I make it my sacred priority to show up in a good way — with grace, awareness, and compassion — in all of my interactions. But that ability didn’t come easily.

As a Trauma Survivor living with PTSD

My healing has required deep courage and self-honesty. I had to confront the parts of myself that trauma distorted — the victim mentality, the suppressed rage, the grief of lost identity — and learn how to feel without falling apart. Because the truth is, we are all connected through the shared emotions of being human: grief, loss, shame, resilience, and the desire to rise again.

Living with Nervous System Dysregulation

For those who’ve lived in prolonged states of fear — whether through war, human trafficking, or domestic violence — the body becomes conditioned to brace for danger. The nervous system forgets what peace feels like. Relearning safety requires patience and devotion: somatic breathwork, vagal nerve stimulation, meditation, hiking, caring for animals, and daily rituals that remind the body, you are safe now.

What does it mean to "show up in a good way"?

To “show up in a good way” means more than being polite — it means being emotionally regulated and respectful in our relationships, whether personal or professional. For survivors, that takes an extraordinary amount of energy and intention. When we are triggered, our minds can transport us back to the very moment of trauma. The same flood of fear, shame, and disorientation can arise, and it takes grounding, compassion, and awareness to return to presence.

Perspective Shift

In my early twenties, when I worked as a counselor for survivors of domestic violence, I didn’t fully understand the amount of self-care it takes just to function after trauma — to make breakfast, to smile, to show up. Now, as a survivor myself, I do. I see the unseen labor it takes to stay balanced. I feel deep reverence for every survivor who chooses peace over pain, and gentleness over reaction.

Karuna Compassion

This page is dedicated to the practice of self-care as a sacred responsibility — not as indulgence, but as preparation. So that we may show up for others in a good way — grounded, authentic, and kind.

It’s not our performance that defines us; it’s our presence.
It’s how we make others feel.
It’s how we embody respect while remaining true to ourselves.

Self-Care Requires Consistency

6 Types of Self Care

Self-care is defined as dedicated time during which we put our own needs above those of others. While as a society we often shy away from self-care and may feel at times that we are being selfish, it's important too remember that without first embodying compassion, empathy, and love for ourselves, we do not have the capacity to give love to others. Self-care can mean so many different things to so many people. In this video I give examples of 6 different types of self-care. Consistency is key.

In life, it’s not just about showing up for our loved ones, it’s about showing up in a good way. Self-care allows us to maintain mental clarity and balance in our lives. Inherent to any relationship are the expectations of self-regulation and mutual respect, and this means making the conscious effort to not emotionally dump on our friends, coworkers and loved ones, maintaining healthy boundaries, and replenishing our internal batteries such that we can radiate love, light, and compassion and contribute to the emotional prosperity of those we care about and to our community.

What Is Self-Care?

Mindful Cooking Is Self-Care

There are 6 major categories of selfcare, and these are: physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, social, and sensory.

Mindful Cooking Is Self-Care

Too Little Self-Care Affects Our Relationships

Mindful Cooking Is Self-Care

Selfcare doesn’t have to be expensive. Cooking at home mindfully, meaning paying attention to the process, appreciating the sounds and smells, and not multi-tasking and thinking about other things while I cook is a way that I practice self-care. What I love about mindful cooking at home is that I don’t need to exclude my puppy, and I am still able to have time to myself because while I cook, I don’t need to focus my attention on puppy as like myself, he is also distracted by the sounds and smells.

What Is Too Much Self-Care?

Too Little Self-Care Affects Our Relationships

Too Little Self-Care Affects Our Relationships

Selfcare is dedicated time to yourself where you engage in an activity in which you are able to put your needs before those of someone else. It’s a time for us to recharge our batteries such that we can be compassionate and empathetic to our loved ones when we spend time with them and not feel burnt out. When we feel burnt out is when we are unkind to those closest to us and this only serves to bring pain to the people we love and to cause rifts in relationships. That’s why self-care is really important.

TOOLS FOR NAVIGATING OUR "INNER KURUKSHETRA WAR"

YOGA

Yoga means union and yoga is a form of spiritual technology for wellbeing. The magic of technology is that one does not have to believe or disbelieve in how it works-one simply has to use it. Technology will produce results irrespective of who you are.

MEDITATION

Mastering The Art of Meditation: Meditation can take years to master and it's something I work at everyday. When done properly, the brain goes blank and this serves to reboot our human operating systems similar to rebooting a computer.

CHAKRA BALANCING

Chakras are energy dense vortexes residing along our spine, and we now have the technology to capture and measure the electromagnetic waves they emit. Each chakra is connected to one major nerve plexus and 1-2 endocrine glands and communicate with the brain via cranial nerve 10, the vagus nerve. Endocrine glands secrete hormones that influence the different organ systems in our bodies as well as our mood. Chakra imbalance over time leads to physical and mental illness.

MINDFUL EATING

In a world bustling with distractions and deadlines, the simple act of eating is often reduced to a mechanical necessity—a rushed sandwich between meetings, a quick bite in front of the screen, or a sugary treat to soothe stress. Yet, across spiritual traditions and mindful living philosophies, food is not just fuel; it is sacred. What we eat and how we eat are profound reflections of our inner state and powerful influences on our spiritual journey.

KATHAK DANCE

Kathak dance is the classical Indian art form of telling stories. The kathaka, or kathak dancer, is the storyteller.  Kathak dance embodies speed, power, and endurance.

The mudras we use in Kathak dance influence energies of our subtle body and awaken kundalini by engaging the chakra temples located along our spine. Dancing with our bare feet upon the ground grounds us into the lower half of our bodies and consecrates our connection to Mother Earth, thereby engaging our Root Chakra Temple. Kathak dance is so dynamic it balances different aspects of each chakra temple in various ways.

THE SACRED SCIENCE OF VEDIC ASTROLOGY

J.P. Morgan once said, “Millionaires don’t use astrology. Billionaires do.”
This timeless truth reminds us that astrology isn’t superstition — it’s strategy rooted in spiritual science.

Just as meteorologists use mathematical equations to forecast the weather, the ancient sages of India developed Vedic astrology — a divine mathematics of the cosmos — to map the energetic “weather” of our lives. The stars and planets exert gravitational and vibrational influences upon us, shaping the rhythm and resonance of our experiences.

In the same way I might check a weather forecast before stepping outside to know whether to carry an umbrella or wear lighter clothes, I turn to astrology for insight into the inner and outer climates of my life — the best times to travel, nurture relationships, make financial decisions, or retreat inward for reflection.

Astrology gives me language for my emotions and permission to accept the natural cycles of expansion and rest, joy and challenge. It helps me remember that nothing in life is random — that I chose my lessons before I arrived here.

Our Vedic birth chart is more than a cosmic snapshot; it’s our soul contract — a sacred agreement we signed before incarnating on Earth. Within it lies the blueprint of our destiny, the curriculum of our growth, and the timing of our awakening.

When we align our actions with these celestial rhythms, we move with the current of the Universe rather than against it — living not by chance, but by divine design.
